Pure electric aircraft do not, of course, burn fuel but rather store energy in batteries to power the motors. Battery technology has been a limiting factor due to weight and safety concerns. UAV’s can be remotely piloted (UAS) or autonomous. The remotely piloted drone system includes a current FAA certified remote pilot, an observer, and a control operator. Autonomous vehicles are programmed and perform preprogrammed tasks like mapping, tracking ground objects, agricultural spraying or seed planting et cetera.
